Travelling from the UK to Istanbul for treatment: a planning guide

A practical checklist for comparing hair transplant, dental and aesthetic treatment plans in Turkey. Start with the clinician, the complete written quote and the arrangements for care after you return home.

This guide covers planning and questions to ask. It does not establish your suitability for treatment or replace a consultation with your treating clinician.

Start with the treatment decision

Before comparing flights or packages, decide what you want assessed and which questions matter to you. Ask who will examine you, who will carry out the procedure, where it will take place and what alternatives should be considered. You should understand the proposed treatment, its limitations and the follow-up arrangements before committing.

A photograph-based assessment is a starting point. Your final plan depends on the examination in Istanbul. Ask what happens to the price and your booking if that examination changes the recommendation.

Compare the full cost, including the return journey

Compare the same scope in both quotes. For hair treatment, clarify the proposed method and how the estimate will be confirmed. For dental work, ask for the teeth involved, restoration type and any stages requiring another visit. For surgery, clarify the facility, anaesthesia, checks and recovery arrangements.

  • Ask for the quote currency and the exchange rate or conversion method if you budget in GBP.
  • List hotel nights, transfers, medication and reviews separately, with the exclusions clearly stated.
  • Add flights, insurance, companion costs, extra nights and any later visit to your own budget.
  • Ask for cancellation, rescheduling and clinically indicated additional-treatment terms in writing.

Confirm the calendar before booking flights

A treatment date is not the whole trip. Ask for the arrival appointment, procedure, checks before departure and any later treatment stage. Use the patient journey examples to discuss the sequence; they are not a fixed itinerary for your case.

Tell the coordinator which UK airport you will depart from and confirm your Istanbul arrival airport and transfer arrangements. Leave room for changes if your clinician recommends a longer stay. The treating clinician should confirm when you can travel; a discounted return flight should not determine your recovery timetable.

Check documents and insurance with the appropriate sources

Check the current FCDO travel advice for Turkey and the entry rules for the passport you will use. UK residence and passport nationality are different questions. Ask your insurer specifically about the planned treatment, complications and changes to your return journey, rather than assuming ordinary holiday cover is sufficient.

The NHS guidance on cosmetic surgery abroad explains questions about qualifications, consultations, complications and aftercare. Read it alongside your individual treatment discussion.

Plan aftercare in the UK before you leave

Ask who will answer follow-up questions, which reviews can be remote and which need an examination. Get the contact details, instructions and any procedure or material records you may need to show another clinician. Agree what happens if an in-person review or another trip is needed and how those costs are handled.

Remote coordination is not a substitute for urgent local care. Do not assume a UK partner clinic, a particular NHS service or free corrective treatment is included unless it has been explicitly confirmed for your case.

Use the relevant treatment guide

Keep the treatment decision separate from the travel decision. A lower headline quote does not answer who is responsible for your care or whether the proposed procedure is appropriate.

Before you confirm

Keep a written copy of the clinician and facility details, treatment scope, quote and exclusions, visit schedule, payment and cancellation terms, and aftercare plan. Ask for anything unclear to be explained in a language you understand. You can start with Auravia’s free consultation form and discuss these questions before making travel arrangements.
