Rhinoplasty in Istanbul: cost, techniques & recovery

A nose reshaping is one of the most requested procedures for patients travelling to Istanbul — and one where the surgeon's skill matters more than anything else. Here is how the techniques differ, what it costs, and what recovery honestly looks like.

Rhinoplasty — a nose job — is delicate, technical surgery. Small changes have a large effect on the whole face, and the result has to work as well as it looks. That is exactly why the choice of surgeon matters more here than in almost any other procedure. This guide explains the techniques, the costs and the recovery so you can have that conversation from an informed position.

Why Istanbul for rhinoplasty

Turkey performs a very high volume of rhinoplasty, and its leading surgeons are experienced and internationally trained. Combined with lower local costs and the all-inclusive model — surgery, hospital, hotel, transfers and aftercare arranged as one trip — it is an appealing option for many patients. None of that replaces due diligence on the individual surgeon, which is the real subject of the last section of this guide.

Open vs closed rhinoplasty

The two approaches differ in how the surgeon accesses the nose. In open rhinoplasty, a tiny incision is made across the columella (the strip of skin between the nostrils), letting the surgeon lift the skin and see the structures directly. This visibility helps with complex reshaping, major changes and revision surgery; the small scar typically fades to near-invisible. In closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are hidden inside the nostrils — there is no external scar and often less swelling, which suits smaller, more predictable changes. Which is right depends on your nose and your goals, and is a decision to make with your surgeon rather than in advance.

Ultrasonic (piezo) rhinoplasty

A newer refinement uses a piezoelectric device to reshape the nasal bone with ultrasonic vibration. Because it works on bone while sparing the surrounding soft tissue, it can allow precise sculpting with less bruising and swelling for suitable patients. It is increasingly offered in Istanbul; whether it is appropriate for you depends on your anatomy and what needs to change.

Function as well as form

A good result is one you can breathe through. Many rhinoplasties are combined with a septoplasty to correct a deviated septum, improving airflow at the same time as appearance. A surgeon focused only on the outside, with no interest in how your nose works, is missing half the operation — raise breathing early in your consultation.

What it costs

The main factors are the surgeon's experience, the complexity of your case (a primary rhinoplasty differs from a revision), the technique, the hospital and the anaesthesia. Rhinoplasty in Istanbul is typically well below UK, European or North American prices. As with every procedure, the honest comparison is not the headline number but what the all-inclusive price includes — hospital, anaesthesia, hotel, transfers and aftercare — set out in writing.

The recovery timeline, honestly

  • Week 1: a splint protects the nose; expect swelling and bruising around the eyes. The splint usually comes off at around a week.
  • Weeks 2–3: the obvious bruising and swelling settle enough that most people feel comfortable in public and back at desk work.
  • Months 1–3: the nose looks natural to others, though subtle swelling remains that only you would notice.
  • Up to 12 months: the fine, final shape emerges as the last swelling — especially at the tip — fully resolves. Rhinoplasty is a procedure you judge at a year, not a month.

Choosing a surgeon safely

This is where the decision is really made. Look for a qualified plastic surgeon operating in a hospital authorised by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health; you should know who your surgeon is before you travel and meet them before surgery. Ask to see real before-and-after cases of noses like yours, with honest photography, and read patient reviews and our photo policy. A trustworthy surgeon is candid about what is realistic for your anatomy and clear about their approach if a revision is ever needed. Explore the full range on our plastic & aesthetics page.

Planning the trip

Surgical procedures usually need a longer stay than dental or hair treatments — commonly six to seven nights — so your surgeon can review you before you fly home. A companion is welcome and usually shares your room. Your written plan confirms the exact stay before you book anything, and you only book flights once your dates are fixed.

Common questions

Frequently asked

It depends on the surgeon's experience, whether it is a primary or revision procedure, the technique and the hospital. Istanbul is typically well below UK, European and North American prices. We give you one all-inclusive figure in writing — covering hospital, anaesthesia, hotel, transfers and aftercare — after a surgeon reviews your case.
Neither is universally better. Open rhinoplasty gives the surgeon direct visibility, which helps with complex changes and revisions; closed rhinoplasty leaves no external scar and often less swelling for smaller changes. The right choice depends on your nose and is decided with your surgeon.
A splint is usually removed at about a week, and most obvious bruising and swelling settle within two to three weeks — enough to return to work and normal life. Subtle swelling continues to resolve over the following months.
The nose looks natural to others within a few months, but the fine final shape — particularly at the tip — can take up to twelve months to fully emerge as the last swelling resolves. Rhinoplasty is judged at a year.
It can be, with the right surgeon and hospital. Safety comes down to a qualified plastic surgeon operating in a Ministry of Health-authorised facility, a plan discussed in person, and honest before-and-after evidence — not the lowest quote.
